What is Dāna?
Dāna (pronounced: dah-nuh; like Donna) is a Buddhist practice of generosity and giving, which acts as a foundational virtue cultivating non-attachment, compassion, and joy while breaking down selfishness and greed. This practice stands in stark contrast to our current economic model based on transactions and profit.
Dāna operates based on trust and the notion of reciprocity.
Each person gives from a joyful mind and heart what is theirs to offer. Dāna is not about the amount given, but the intention to let go and benefit others, making it a practice accessible to everyone regardless of wealth. In this spirit, I intend to offer this drop-in class as my dāna to the community. Those who participate in the monthly drop-in class, Drinking at the Imaginal Well, are welcome to offer dāna in return if they are so moved by the teachings.
